This time around you may have chosen to leave the little Jack Russel behind and gone for something a little bigger such as a Labrador which ultimately falls under 'Large Dog Grooming'… Hopefully by now you have realized that you have made the right choice and your larger bigger friend is giving you tighter hugs with all that extra meat he/she is packing. You will need a bigger tub, more shampoo, up your dose on any flea and tick treatment, more time and of course more muscle and effort is required.  Large dog grooming is not for every owner and if your pet does not like these grooming sessions then it will most probably be no walk in the park…although, a walk in the park could also be more interesting these days with a bigger dog. It is important to start grooming your pet from an early age so they become accustomed to this and will make your life a whole lot easier in the future.

When it comes to large dog grooming try keep your big boy/girl calm, be firm and assertive, don’t let the your dog decide what happens when its bath time. A certain amount of force may be required in the beginning but remember to be gentle at the same time.  Grooming sessions will more than likely need to happen more frequently as large breed dogs tend to explore a bit more and are more prone to parasites such as fleas and ticks.If you have attempted this a few times and have decided that you are just not cut out for large dog grooming then you will require the services  of a dog parlour. Groomers spend their days handling all sorts of breeds of dogs, big to small, short to tall and know the “tricks of the trade” when it comes to handling the Mike Tysons in the dog world.
